My Story
Why do my blog on law firm client service when I could've done it on anything: flyfishing, backpacking, biking, or something in keeping with my education? Three main reasons:
1. I'd feel guilty writing about flyfishing when I doubt I've ever caught anything doing it!
2. I think the way a person treats their clients tells me something about their character, and in that I'm always interested.
3. Having researched the topic, I think it's an interesting area worthy of consideration.
I started researching it a few years into my time with LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell, where I had been a representative for both small law firms and large law firms. Through that experience I became familiar with the unique needs of both segments, and the challenges they both face. I've really enjoyed working with lawyers. They really are just regular people whose butler's tie their lawyer's shoes one at a time like the rest of us. Lawyers are an educated lot, and I appreciate that.
By my own education, I am a bit misplaced. My undergraduate degree is a B.A. in Philosophy & Religion with a minor in Business (which we all know means I took 3 classes vaguely relating to business). I graduated summa cum laude from Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington, only because everyone else in married student housing spent more time watching the Seahawks practice than studying. The Seahawks leased school land, and their practice facilities were right below married student housing. I watched only enough to have a really good grasp of why they went 2-14 those painful years. Make no mistake: I am a lifelong Seahawks fan. It's fun now; wasn't so much so then.
My master's work (towards an M.A., Christian Thought) was done in the areas of Systematic Theology and Philosophy of Religion. I am just a thesis and an internship (twice completed, but never credited by my own negligence) away from actually possessing the sheepskin. Being the animal lover that I am, I can't bring myself to do it. That was pursued at Trinity International University (the divinity school, to be specific) in Deerfield, IL.
When I'm not working, I have a wife and 3 boys, ages 9 to 13 (the boys, that is; my wife is, well, older). They keep me plenty busy. We have been married over 20 years now and we live outside of the Seattle area, where we both grew up. We have two German Short Haired Pointers. Free to a good home.
I enjoy fitness activities and sports like bicycling, running, soccer (especially indoor soccer) and backpacking. I also enjoy reading in the areas of philosophy of science and religion; easy to say since I never actually have any time to do it.
